Poem: “My Old Work Boots”… By WIlliam Martin….

The steel toes are showing on my old work boots, but if you’d been the miles that they have you’d be wore out to, they rode in the back of my truck when work was hard to find, ready to go when money was low and I was in a bind, from Oklahoma to Texas out to New Mexico, thousands of miles in the rear view chasing that black gold.

The soles are worn and the leather may be cracked, but they busted their ass during the boom, and kept me going when rigs were getting stacked. They been there on my feet in the summer heat or working through the pain in the pouring rain.

May be slinging tongs on the rig floor or pulling pipe up on the board their part of this roughneck, doing what we gotta do to earn that paycheck, so the steel toes might be showing on my old work boots, but if you’d been the miles that they have, you’d be wore out to.
